FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Springfield, VA — Today, U.S. Border Control and U.S. Border Control Foundation filed an Amicus Curiae brief in the United States District Court for the Western Division of Oklahoma in opposition to the Plaintiff’s motion for a temporary restraining order (TRO) to stop certification of a constitutional amendment, State Question 755. Joining USBC in the brief are The Lincoln Institute and the Conservative Legal Defense and Educational Foundation.
The amendment, which was passed overwhelmingly on Nov. 2, 2010, ensures that Oklahoma courts “shall uphold and adhere to the law as provided in the United States Constitution, the Oklahoma Constitution, the United States Code, established common law, the Oklahoma Statutes, and rules promulgated thereto”, but shall not look to the legal precepts of other nations or cultures. Specifically, the courts shall not consider international law or Shari’ah law.
On November 4, 2010, the plaintiff, a self-described “practicing Muslim,” with the assistance of CAIR (the Council on American-Islamic Relations) sought a temporary restraining order to prevent the Oklahoma State Board of Elections from certifying passage of 755.
U.S. Border Control Chairman Edward Nelson intends to ask the new Congress to pass federal legislation similar to Oklahoma’s 755 amendment to ensure that the liberty and justice all Americans cherish shall not be subverted by foreign or international laws which do not reflect our American standards of freedom, fairness and equality.
“It is urgent that the 112th Congress heed the warnings coming from Europe that radical Islam and Shari’ah Law are tearing those nations apart. Already, in U.S. cities where large Muslim populations exist, attempts are being made to replace our own laws, including our Constitutional guarantees of Freedom of Speech and Religion, with Shari’ah.”
Why is this an issue? Because Shari’ah law appears to be backward and brutal system that treats women like cattle; condones violence, even murder; and denies freedom of both speech and religion to anyone who is not a Muslim. That’s a problem for a nation that respects the rights of women and is recognized worldwide as a bastion for freedom of speech and religion.
It is already here. In New Jersey, a man who was brutalizing his wife, torturing her and raping her, used Shari’ah Law as his defense. The Defendant claimed he was “operating under his belief [Shari’ah] that, as a husband, his desire to have sex when and whether he wanted to, was something that was consistent with his practices and it was something that was not prohibited.”
America has always welcomed immigrants with very diverse backgrounds, languages, cultures and religions. All we ask is that they obey our laws and treat their fellow Americans with respect. In my mind, Shari’ah fails this test on all counts and poses a grave threat to American’s freedoms.

Muslims seem to use their religion to get their way with any thing that they either want, or don’t want. To me their religion seems more like an excuse to run amok then to have a real higher power/religion. Have conviently found out Americans will bend over back wards to let them use “their religion” as an exucse to get position of power over us. Don’t fall for their manipulation.
